Die Biologische Station Westliches Ruhrgebiet kann auf Grundlage jahrelanger eigener Forschungen und Erfahrungen zu Industrienaturflächen auf umfängliche Bestandsdaten zurückgreifen. Diese stützen sich zu einem überwiegenden Teil auf eigene Untersuchungen sowie zwei Großprojekte (Projektantrag im Bundeswettbewerb Naturschutzgroßprojekte und ländliche Entwicklung und Sicherung der Biodiversität im Ballungsraum, F & E Vorhaben des Bundesamtes für Naturschutz)
